Where to buy good silent hard drive in UK?

Post by joshley » Sun Aug 01, 2004 6:54 am

Hello!
Can someone tell me where to buy something like the Segate Barracuda V in the UK? Or something as quiet?
I am looking for as silent as I can get HDD probably around 60-80GB. Anyone point me in the right direction??
Thanks!

Call me obvious, but how about looking at the thread entitled "Sticky for the UK" in the "Deals, Vendors & Classifieds" forum.
There are loads of vendors some of which are general, some of which are specialist. One particular general vendor (and quite randomly it's the first vendor I looked at), Savastore, has the Cuda V.
I have a Cuda V and a Spinpoint in my current desktop. Search the forums for people's views on each.

EDIT: After looking up the model number on that Savastore link it looks like it may not be a Cuda V, but a 7200.7 - anyway, this Savastore link for a 120G drive definately is a Cuda V (ST3120023A)

Cheers :) I seemed to have completely missed the 'Deals, Vendors and Classifieds' forum when browsing this site! I'm off to look through there....

You may want to double-check what you buy from Savastore and you still are running a risk of getting something else

I never used them myself - but I did notice the mismatch in model number soon after my earlier post - see the EDIT.

Sorry to hear about your trans-european HDD annoyance - I used Savastore once with mail order and the order was correct - but very late.. friends have reported complications too. You could be right to avoid them... unless of course joshley could get to the warehouse customer counter and check it for himself.

EDIT: PS.. I might aswell add my opinion - I have both a Cuda V 120GB and a Spinpoint 1614N (160G 8MCache) and I think I prefer the spinpoint... I bought three others and they're pretty good me thinks. If you have a proper read of the forums you'll find that the quietest drives were the Cuda IV, but are no longer available - the nearest equivalnt in terms of noise are the Samsung Spinpoints.. and are laso faster.
