Samsung 32GB SSD - Can't FDisk or Format, please help?

Post by CraigB » Fri Jun 08, 2007 3:40 pm

I just received my new Samsung 32GB SSD. I am hoping to replace the 30GB hard drive in my lap top.

In order to do this, I am trying to use a 2.5" HD to USB adaptor to copy the HD drives. However, when I connect the Samsung 32GB SSD to the 2.5" USB HD enclosure, windows recognizes the hardware, and installs the driver, and says 'new hardware installed and ready to use'. But I can't access the Samsung SSD with Administrative Tools (to FDisk) or through any other means. It times out after about 5 to 10 minutes of trying to connect to the "Logical Disk Manager".

Any help?

I went to the local Micro Center and bought a 2.5" to 3.5" PATA adapter. The flash drive was recognized and already formated FAT32.

Next up: Replicate the laptop hard drive.

Could you post some HDTach benchmarks?

Thanks!

I will, when I get it working. The drive seems fine. I'm having trouble replicating my corporate managed HD onto the flash. I'm using Casper Xp, but the corporate managed HD uses 2 partitions and other wierd stuff I've never seen.

That sucks - corporations will get you like that. I am still hoping these babies come down in price over the next few months.

Another way is to insert the SSD in the laptop, format it, and then put it in the USB enclosure.
