Recommendations for mounting 2.5" HDD in 3.5" spac

Post by gizmonty » Sat Jun 21, 2008 2:08 pm

Does anyone have any experience in mounting a 2.5" HDD in a standard case. The adapters I have seen are all metal on metal and I'm thinking they are very likely to vibrate. Are there any devices designed to do this in a nice quiet way? Is there a custom way of doing the job. I am very keen to use a 2.5" drive as I am trying to make a very low power server (but need more space than CF or similar can give me) that needs to be as quiet as possible.

Well theres the Scythe Quiet Drive Enclosure, but its pretty pricey considering the 2.5 drive is likely quiet and cool anyway. Is there any way of making a simple suspension rig in your case? Elastic rope seems to be good as long as youve got somewhere to loop it through.

That may do the job. Would it be resistant to vibration? Maybe the elastic sling option may be my best bet.
