Ok, what is the difference between these two drives?

SP1213N

SP1614N

No.

The SP1213N is a 120GB drive.

The (phantom) SP0812N is the 80GB drive in this serires.

The SP1614N is a 160GB drive.

Detect a pattern in Samsung's model number sequence?

PhilgB - To answer your original question a different way: The drives are identical except for capacity. The SP80 series uses 80GB platters. The SP1213N and the SP1614N both use 2 80GB platters, the 160GB version uses the full capacity of both platters (4 sides and 4 heads). The 120GB version uses the full capacity of one platter and only one side of the other platter (3 sides and 3 heads).

And I thought the SP1213N had one 80GB platter and one 40GB platter. :oops:

You should tell that to Samsung, the site says 80GB for all 3 drives.
