Thansk to Edward NG and his excellent review, I've made up my mind to buy a Samsung SP80.
However, several patrons noted their SP80 is not that quiet.
NG wrote "Please keep in mind that variations in manufacturing will and do occur. "
Note that NG lists samsung's serial # in his article.

Head over to Overclockers. http://www.cpudatabase.com/CPUdb/
End-users can post the oc' potential of their cpu by posting their results, and the CPU's FPO/Batch #, S Code, and Plant.
Certain CPU FPO's have better OC potential than others.
My point?
Perhaps we, we being the silent pc community and Mike Chin and Ed NG,
should start a database analogous to overclockers.com
to list those serial numbers of samsung HD"s that are known to be quiet (or loud), and be "selective" in the purchase.
I am curious, those with quiet or loud SP80's, what info do you have on those drives, so we can buy only those SP80s that are quiet or avoid those that are loud.
Samsung SP80 serial #'s --> analogy to CPU batch #s?

your poll
where is your poll? i've not seen it. yes i do wonder if serial # place of manufactoring, batch #, etc. makes a difference in sound.
this is specifically the sp80 as it dominates over other drives by seagate wd maxtor, etc.
