This little gizmo from Asus seems interesting & cheapish, although a bit slow in the data transfer dept:

Of no great interest to myself, however, I do wonder if it could made to work with a 3.5'' disk via adapters? Would no longer be self contained though.
Certainly one "out of the box" way to get storage away from the case & could have certain applications. I'm sure our boffins could be inspired.

Another alternative is Netgear WGT634U wireless router which has an option to connect external USB2.0 drives. The drive will be available on the local network and may also be set up as an ftp server available from internet (no need for a computer running as ftp server then). I have the router but haven't bought an external drive adapter or external enclosure yet. Maybe I build my own enclosure with an USB2.0-IDE adapter and a 3,5" HD. The WGT634U has the same limitation not being able to write to a NTFS formatted disc and I have heard people having issues with reading files larger than 4GB on the NTFS disc.
I'm looking forward to:

Maybe in middle or late 2005?
