This is the suspension that I am using on my drives. However, the idle noise of the Spinpoint is becoming very irritating. It is a whoosh sound, like a low speed fan.

is there anything else I can do to make it more quiet, apart from buying a new drive? I would like to keep the side Antec "holes" open for better cooling though

specs:
Antec Sonata
2x Coolermaster LED @ 7v
FSP Bluestorm 350 w/ Globe low speed
Zalman 7000A-AlCu w/ Nexus 92mm (10v)
Seagate BIV 80gb PATA
Spinpoint P80 160gb nidec PATA

Have you checked out alleycat's homebrew harddrive enclosure? I am in the process of installing a copy.

How about mounting it vertically? Get some more space between the side of the drive and case. Vibrations in the elastic should dampen over distance. Doubt it will make a difference to the wooshing noise but worth a try
