External drive enclosure

Post by Derek Baker » Sun Dec 04, 2005 8:03 am

Planning to move my backup drive from inside to outside my machine. Most etailers here stock Akasa and IcyBox. These okay? Are there other brands I should be looking at?

Thanks

Derek

Here´san article comparing 15 different enclosures. Since yor going to use it as a backup drive dont look so much at transfer speed, try to focus more on heat transfer to the enclosure and how well it can contain the noise. A really crappy enclosure might even amplify the noise while cooking the drive at the same time.. If the enclosure doesnt get warm when the drive is on, then the heat is not transferred properly and the drive might fail sooner than later.. One thing missing from the linked article is temperature measurments, it would have been really easy to do but still they didnt..
