nidec or jvc motor in samsung p80?

Post by wojtec » Sun Feb 05, 2006 11:41 am

Does the manufacture date or revision code give a hint about which
motor was used in the P80 model? there are a few on sale locally but
I don't want the JVC motor.

The motor manufacturer is written on the motor. You can easily see it on the round metal hub underneath the drive.

i just took out one of my drives for inspection - i cant speak for JVC, but the NIDEC looks like it was stamped onto the motor cover with cheap ink - not embossed

There may not be any revision numbers to distinguish the motors. A lot of companies like to dual source parts, and it may be the same revision with just different suppliers of the parts.

MicroCenter sells Samsung drives that are in a clear plastic case (probably OEM drives) and it is easy to see motor manufacturer.
