Anything built by Seagate after 7200.7 is not quiet. .7 itself is a hit and miss depending on place of manufacturing.
Samsung drives are consistently quiet since the first Spinpoints. Apparently the T166 (which the 320 GB one would be) are even quieter than the older models.

Agreed. Can't stand Seagates now.

I have the Seagate Barracuda ST3250820AS HDD 250GB and It has quite an annoying high pitched whine. I perceive it as an ear splitting whine, and my advice is to steer clear.
In saying that, Seagate has served me well with very reliable drives. I'm disappointed I will have to switch manufacturer.

Samsung FTW !
I have 2 HD321KJ (320Gb) models. My CPU and exhaust fan make more noise then those drives.

That is good to hear, I just ordered 2 of them.
After silencing my CPU fan and case fans, I can't wait to silence my HDD's. ...And hear my CPU and case fan again
[off topic: does it ever end...?]

my latest 7200.10 320g made in Thailand is not bad, virtually no vibration. Runs cool too. Seek noise louder than the Western Digital KS though.

I haven't heard a peep out of my suspended Samsung 321KJ. I actually thought something was wrong when I first booted up my PC.

I have two 7200.10 320GB in raid in my main pc, and they was load as hell...
The it hit me, the sound is getting from bottom of the drive, so i stacked them together with a wire, touching bottom sides together. Then placed a foam between them. Mounted them with ruberbands = silent
