Samsung 1TB F1 vs Western Digital 1TB GP vs Hitachi 7k1000

Looks like typical OCUK price gouging for pre-orders - I'll lay odds that as soon as they actually have it in stock, it'll be available elsewhere for £30-£40 less, and they'll cut their own prices as well...miTchy wrote:pre-order for uk people

Here in Holland we have a couple of internetstore's that sells the 1TB Samsung, but most of them have it pre-order.
1 of the biggest shops Sallandautomatisering says it's arriving time is between 1 and 10 days, but I dont believe it. because al other shops have it on pre-order.
But the prices are nice here:
1TB 16mb: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/159170/s ... 102uj.html
1TB 32mb: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/159171/s ... j-1tb.html
The first in the list (Hardware Versand) is a german shop, so the prices in germany are even lower. In holland the lowest price is just above 260 euro.
The cheapast 1TB disk in Holland:
WD GP: 240 euro
Not a big diference

exactly. I won't believe it until it
a) shows up on newegg
b) is listed as actually as available, as opposed to on back order, on geizhals.at (in other words, the fourth column contains a green colored field)
c) someone on spcr actually owns one.
it's unbelievable how often a retailer claims to have something, however at a very high price often, and then people order, and then the shop claims they are sold out and waiting for new stock - so people get them at the same time as from the honest stores, but pay a premium.

I meant with 5 platters (as has Hitachi). Samsung could do it right now on the market.sheninat0r wrote:Umm... i bet most hard drive makers have some prototypes with crazy capacity that they could release... but that doesn't mean that it's going to happen, or that the 3.5-inch 2TB drives wouldn't cost >$1000. i 'm looking for HDDs to built a RAID 5 array of total storage capacity around 2TB.
i was reading the whole topic here for an hour, trying to find out what kind of HDDs is the best and i have no concluded yet.
Finally, is the Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ (1 TB - intern - 3.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 rpm - Buffer: 32 MB) the best available HDD today, from reliability/speed/noise point of view?
the cost here in Germany is 269 Euro (~380$) eachone
and limited availability.
