MTron MOBI -- reasonably priced consumer SSDs

Thought this was kind of cool, looks like MTron has introduced a new SSD product, the MOBI series. Unlike their Pro series these models are intended for consumer applications, but performance is still top-notch, 100MBps write and 80MBps read (only about 20% slower than the Pro drives).

I was most surprised by the price, though, 16GB models are about $400 and 32GB models about $740. Still pricey, but about half the cost of their Pro series SSDs of the same capacity.

I'm still waiting for SSDs to get A LOT cheaper, but it's nice to see high-performance drives getting down to more reasonable prices.

By the way, advertised write endurance is 140 years at 50GB/day. Anybody still want to argue that SSDs can't stand up to the rigors of daily usage?

These are still by far more expensive than the OEM SanDisks. I think it was only $300 for a 32GB SSD from SanDisk.

True, it's a shame the Sandisk aren't available to consumers at that price. I have seen a few on eBay for about $350, though.

You can order the 32GB and 64Gb Sandisks from Dell. I have ordered 2- 32GB ones for $515 and 4 64Gb ones for $890. That was with a corp discount though but is much cheaper than the 800GB for a 32GB on newegg. For the 64GB one that brings it down to just under $14 per GB. Still pretty high but definately more appealing.

Turas: I remember seeing 32GB SSD available at Dell Small Business, didn't realize they had 64GB models, though. Are they available in SATA or IDE only? The SATA versions seem to be a lot tougher to find for some reason.

Mike: The Transcend are pretty cheap, but they're also slow as molasses.

Ah, I had not noticed that one as I was only looking into the SATA versions. Transcend does have a sata one also but yeah the perfomance is dismal. The Sandisk seems to be a decent comprimise of performance and price. And it should only get cheaper. Hopefully the PNY's and Seagate's will be out first of the year and then push these down even further.

I guess the price has gone up? The 32Gb is $550 and the 64Gb is $999.

Well he mentioned he had a corporate discount, that must have shaved a lot off the price.
