I'm trying to find an acoustic management software for my WD 100 gig w/ 2 mb cache drive (WD 1000BB?). What is avaible and where to download it? Thanks.

If you've got an Intel chipset, try using the Intel Application Accelerator app to enable acoustic management. Didn't do squat for my WD 1200BB drive though. YMMV

Yup! That's the truth!
#1 reason I got rid of my WD was spin noise from the bearings.
I now have a super-quiet Maxtor DM+ 120G (primary) and a 'black-hole' quiet Cuda IV 80G (video scratch disk).

I couldn't figure out why people think the maxtor is quiet. I just purchase a 120 maxtor and the seek is the loudest of the 3 major brands. Yes, I agree that the WD has lot of spin/bearing noise but the seek is better than the maxtor. Overall, the seagates the quietest overall including the 7200.7.

If you're hearing the clackity-clack of the seeks, you don't have acoustic management turned on with the Maxtor. My DM+ clacked really bad until I enabled the acoustic management. Sweet silence!

Aside from that, I don't find the seek sound unpleasant, and it can tell me what the hell my computer is doing....
