setting up new PC don't know which hdd is more silent.
I would of thought the samsung but the seagate does have 32Mo instead of 16Mo

Most tests hav shown that in 95% of common situations 32mb of cache compared to 16 provides no noticeable effect on performance. Itsa marketing tool more than anything right now.
The latest samsung drives like the one you listed are very good for speeds and quite good on noise. Have a look at the 640GB Western Digital 'blue' drive, i have 2 of them and they are just fantastic. Very fast, cheap, low power and noise. It should only cost a small amount more than the 500GB drives as well.
