Hey all,
Moved in with the girl! yes yes.. So we have a few pc's and laptops and luckily we share our taste in music. And we like the idea of having a Raid type mirror setup in a NAS, so we only have to store the music and files on one location, that will be 'safe' in shape of a second harddisk, should one fail.
That means we are looking for a networked gigabit device that, SPCR logically should:
- come with no drives (we'll put in 5400 WD Green drives)
- have no PSU fan (can probably disable 'case fan' with low power drives)
- 2 drives is enough space, even if mirroring means we only have the space of one.
Oh, I am assuming when I connect the NAS to a gigabit switch, everything gigabit attached to this will talk in gigabit speed to the NAS, even when a 100mbit router is attached to the NAS for a web access and occasoinal wireless use?
Also I would like to have:
- If I take one HD out the NAS and put into a desktop, it should work and all files should be accessible. No annoying 'only in this NAS' stuff.
- decent speed, 30megabyte/sec, sadly the affordable ones seem to top out here!
If anyone has any tips of not too expensive (150 euro excluding drives) models, that would be great!
Thanks,
Niels
