Zalman 6500-AlCu really good enough to cool a P4 2.66?!

Post by Dance123 » Mon May 26, 2003 4:59 pm

Hi,

Can anyone confirm if the Zalman 6500-AlCu is really capable of keeping a Pentium 4 2.66 cool, even in silent mode?! I want to be able to do some serieus gaming with this sytem which will probably heat up the system I suppose, but I am not going to overclock it! The specs say it can handle up to 2.8 in silent mode, but is this this really true in practice?!

Or would it be better to get the Zalman 5700D-CU, although it has the same specs as the 6500-Alcu (ie. up to 2.8 in silent mode).

I would get a Pentium 4 2.66 with an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro card, but for the rest all normal stuff like one 120GB harddisk, etc.. will the 6500-Alcu keep this cool (in silent mode)?!

Anybody with a similar system has experience with this and can confirm this?! Perhaps you can also list some of the games you play so I can get a better idea what this 6500-AlCu can handle!

Thanks in advance for all good feedback!

Mike.

Greetings, good sir. At present, I'm running a 2.4 Ghz P4 with a 6500-AlCu. I'm using the default 92mm fan in silent mode (around 6v) and hover around 44 C while idle and 54-56 C while under full load.

I'm running a moderately overclocked 9500 Pro with the default HS and a 7v Panaflo. I play a goodly number of 3d games including such recent games as GTA:VC, Splinter Cell, and Raven Shield.

The aforementioned components reside in an Antec 3700 with a 7v exhaust fan and a modded 350w SmartPower PSU (modded in the typical SPCR fashion). This system has been running 24/7 for some time now and to date has exhibited no stability problems.

Hope this helps,

William

If you have the option, you might also check out the 7000Cu or 7000AlCu. I'm running a 7000Cu on a 2.66 in silent mode (fan at about 1400 RPM). My temps are 36C idle, 47C under 100% load.

The thing is inaudible at this RPM. Only caveat with the 7000 is that it's a very large heatsink; some motherboards can't mount it.
