Is the Thermalright HR-02 compatible with the MSI 770-C45?

I've looked at the compatibility PDF but there isn't a record for it. Anyone know whether it'd work? I really hope so cos this cooler looks amazing. Passive cooling at low temperatures. Sounds awesome!!!

It probably is, but it is hard to know for certain.

Noctua does a good job a providing compatibility info. For example, the NH-D14... which likely performs about as well passively as the HR-02 and probably have even more fin area... is compatible with the MSI 770-C45:

The Noctua NC-14 using one fan set on low might be an even better fit. They don't list the NC-14 as either compatible or incompatible with MSI 770-C45:

If you email them at [email protected] they will likely give you a quick answer. They give real good support.

Thanks for the info. May look into that cooler when i upgrade to LGA2011. I'm starting to save for a Sandy Bridge-E so there's no point in buying a new cooler for my current system. The quad channel memory looks too tasty. I eventually got a response from Thermalright so i'll post my findings in case it benefits anyone searching for answers as i was. The HR-02 will fit any motherboard providing the north bridge heatsink is no higher than 48mm. I measured the heatsink on the 770-C45 and it will fit.

One of the benefits of Noctua is that with each new generation of chips, they provide their old customers the new mounting kits...for FREE. I'm unaware of anyone else that does that.

If you are expecting to upgrade to the LGA2011 that might be a reason to choose Noctua.

For free!?!? That's awesome!!!! Might start looking into it now then. I'd have to check before buying though but it's nice to know there's likely to be a passive cooler available as soon as i swap to LGA2011.

Yes. All they ask for is a copy of your receipt for the cooler and for the new chip... and I think maybe a picture of the chip.

If you notice, they design their coolers specifically so that they are adaptable to future chips... as does Thermalright.
