bad idea? i've done it.. :/ my surface wasn't flat, you could see the visible fin marks on the base.. just wondering what people think.

Did lapping it make a significant drop in cpu temps?

Mine works fine and is smoother (un-lapped) than some solid bottom coolers I have laying around.

The visible fin marks probably are not bad... But when lapping, if you notice the sandpaper is touching only certain areas and leaving other parts completely alone, then the surface should benefit from lapping. Or maybe not - heatspreaders on the CPU seem to reduce the effects of any lapping.
