Will a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu fit on my Abit IC7-G With....
I was wondering if a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu will fit on my Abit IC7-G motherboard with a Zalman ZM-NB32J passive fan on my northbridge? Its the gold passive fan not the blue one, I believe its slightly smaller than the newer blue passive northbridge fan from zalman. The reason I ask is I just got my new P4 3.4 CPU and my old coolermaster silent heat pipe fan just isn't cooling it well enough. I'm at about 50C idle and almost 70C load, and I want to get the zalman or maybe the thermright sp-97 and put on a papst or panflo 92 mm fan on it. BTW which would be better the zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu or the thermright in terms of noise which would be quieter?
Thanks, falcon26

I have 7000AlCu over my Abit IC7-G. I have the new blue Zalman NB passive cooler.
There is a lot of space (at least 0.5 cm) between them and they fit well.
I built a new iron clip to link the NB cooler to the MOBO.
I think your NB cooler could fit, if glued/linked in the right place (not too close to CPU)
With my P4-3200 and Zalman 7000AlCu@1800 rpm I have 52C idle and 69C on load (MOBO report); 48C idle and 79C on load (TT temp probe glued under the processor). The last temps seem to be unreliable.

That sounds high to me. I've a plain IC7 with the latest BIOS running a 2.4C at 3.0 and 1.575V. Speedfan keeps the 7000AlCu at 1400 RPM under load and reports 60C CPU and 30C mobo in a 20C room. Do you have a Prescott or a hot environment?gianni wrote:With my P4-3200 and Zalman 7000AlCu@1800 rpm I have 52C idle and 69C on load (MOBO report)
saw your post about this on the abit forums, so you actually got the 7000 al-cu and the gold zalman nb heatsink and couldn't fit the two of them together? .... might have to reconsider my set-up then as i was planning on that nb heatsink and the 7000al-cu hsf toofalcon26 wrote:BTW their was no way the zalman was going to fit on the MB with the zalman northbridge cooler. I would have had to cut like 80% of the fins off it to shorten the height of it....
as an aside, did you try slowing down the stock nb fan speed in the bios?... if you did, how noisy is that now? ... actually even if you run yours at full speed, is it too noisy for you?
i have that mb too, but my cpu hasn't arrived yet so i can't tell you how mine runs as yet

I run mine (the new, bigger NB cooler) on Speedfan. Stock (5000 RPM) is far too loud, but below 3000 or so should be fine for all but the quietest systems.dddp wrote:as an aside, did you try slowing down the stock nb fan speed in the bios?... if you did, how noisy is that now? ... actually even if you run yours at full speed, is it too noisy for you?
I have a P4-3.2C @3.3 in an Italian summer environment: 27C.HammerSandwich wrote:That sounds high to me. I've a plain IC7 with the latest BIOS running a 2.4C at 3.0 and 1.575V. I have an ATI 9800XT near my processor too. My ATI is cooled with a Zalman heat pipe GPU cooler with optional fan @1900 rpm
The GPU cooler fan pushes hot air under the processor, while your stock NB fan pushes fresh air under the CPU.
Before changing GPU and NB heat sinks, my temps were 3-4C lower; but the system was louder.
I could try to use Speedfan as you do.
With my BIOS I can't have my 7000AlCu at less then 2100rmp and I must use Zalman Fanmate: lowest settings on BIOS are 60%, meaning about 7V, I suppose; with Fanmate I can't have a fan ramping at 65C (summer heavy load).
Thanks for the idea.
just a thought, maybe you'd be better off with an arctic cooling vga cooler, that way you'd get the hot air from your 9800xt out of your case therefore not adding to any temps around your hsf or nb fan, the vga cooler is also pretty quiet on low speed setting, there's new vga coolers available now to suit a wider range of vga cardsgianni wrote:I have a P4-3.2C @3.3 in an Italian summer environment: 27C.HammerSandwich wrote:That sounds high to me. check this out, i think there's now one for 9800xt's also for nvidia cards as wellgianni wrote:Thanks dddp, I think what you say about an external exsausts vga cooler is true: better temps in case, better temps on CPU and, I suppose, better temps for PSU; I am sure this one means less noise. But I red about artic cooling silencer and it did non fit on 9800xt!

no problem, its available in australia here http://www.lownoisepc.com/ in the heatsinks chipsets etc section, the guy who runs this site also is a user at spcr forums, they retail for $40 australian dollars, goodluck and i'm certain it will help lower your temps
oh, and it's model number is ATI silencer 3 , not revision 3, revision 3 is a version of the original arctic cooler hsf, that is different to these new hsf coolers
