Can the xp-120 be oriented differently?

Post by RonG » Wed Mar 23, 2005 12:44 pm

Can someone tell me if the xp-120 can be oriented on an amd64 MB (asus k8v-x) so that air can blow through fins straight to the rear exhaust?
This would place the ends of the heatpipes either next to the ps or next to the agp card.

Have you seen:
K8V *caps mechanically obstruct pipe slightly, cap tilting necessary
on the thermalright website.

Looking at the picture of the K8V-X. The only way to mount the XP-120 is with the heatpipes pointing to the memory. This is the case for most Asus boards I know. The heatpipes can never point in the direction of the screws that mount the bracket (PSU and video side with this mobo) On the side of the back of the case, the voltage regulation components are in the way.

You can reverse the fan so it sucks air from the heatsink instead...you can then make a duct to direct the air to the rear fans.

In case anyone is planning their system to include the xp-120 they should know that some motherboards also orient the socket differently.

For example the DFI shown here:

orients it at 90 degrees of the typical, like these:
