Best CPU Fan for Athlon 64 3800+ on a ASUS A8V Deluxe MB
I just orderd my new Athlon 64 3800+, and ASUS A8V Deluxe MB. I need to know what quiet CPU Cooler to get for the combo. Seems like Zalman is out of the question, as it does not fit easily. I was looking at the Nexus AOP-6400. Let me know what you think.
i just put a zalman on my AV8 and it was a piece of cake. check the following link:

pretty much u re-use the screws from the black mounting bracket on the mobo to hook up the cooler to the mobo. just make sure it is about the height of the spacer they have. use the stock back plate from the AV8 - nothing to remove and it's faster for me to install it than a snap on cooler.

I'm not going to mess with the Zalman, I'm getting a new CPU and MB so I'm going to get a new CPU Cooler also. I would like to get the Termalright XP-120 if it will fit on my MB. So what 120mm should I get for it? I'm not going to be over clocking my CPU, I just want something that will cool it and be quiet.
Read the review to find out which fan to buy:

Akasa AK913 Available in the UK, not sure about elsewhere.
A8V with a 3500+, XP-120 with a Nexus 120 fan. I have never seen temps of 40 C or higher.
Xarafax is right, the heat pipes just miss the RAM but they DO miss it.
I put the XP-120 on the CPU/A8V and then installed the motherboard in the ASUS 3000B case. It went very smoothly. When I look in the case I know installing the XP-120 on a motherboard already in the case would be much tighter.
Enjoy.

There's a lot of large sinks around that can be run the same. So close to the rear fan they can be run 'semi-passive'. Checking out the MadShrimps shootout the Scythe Ninja looks a prime candidate.mongobilly wrote:Thermaltake SonicTower or Titan Vanessa L Type.
My 3000+ on A8V Deluxe works passively with the SonicTower, the whole system is cooled by one 120mm 600RPM fan in the back.

If I could have gotten it (and at a reasonable price, on top of that), I'd probably have gone for the Ninja (might have gone with the NCU2005 if it had been on stock the day I bought my stuff). But alas, the SonicTower is shipping, worldwide and quite affordable (~40$), too.Sooty wrote: There's a lot of large sinks around that can be run the same. Those really big boys are mostly in the same category, they all work very well. Much better than the XP120 from a silent point of view but not as nice for systems that get carried to lan parties as the size generates quite some torque.
I searched your previous posts, and found the answer:Sooty wrote:Do you know what your temps are, Mongobilly, and what case and fan do you use?
So what CFM is your Yate Loon making at 600rpm?mongobilly wrote:Evem a Winchester 3000+ is easily cooled passively at load in my SLK3700 with ONE 600RPM 120mm Yate Loon fan in the back. That is if you can live with 60° CPU temp under load (you can, the spec says stay below 65). If you drop the voltage to 1.25V (works just fine) it stays clearly under 60° with the same setup. With 27° room temperature I boosted the fan to still nearly inaudible 1000rpm to get the HDs to stay below 40°.
I suppose one could go completely fanless in a proper case but I don't want to fry my HDs nor does it make much sense to leave the fan away if you can't hear it over the HDs even at 800RPM.
