Looking for Best Low-Profile Socket 775 Cooler
Looking for some advice here regarding the best quiet low-profile 775 coolers that are out there currently. I have no interest in large tower coolers such as the ninja due to the height and weight, not to mention it's overkill with an undervolted cpu with a fan. Thanks in advance for any thoughts

How do you define low-profile? If you just care about height being < 100mm with fan, Thermalright XP-120 seems like the champ. If you need smaller overall footprint than XP-120, Thermalright XP-90/XP-90C and Zerotherm CF800/CF900 are quite good. The Zerotherms are barely taller than the Intel boxed cooler, but they are quite a bit wider. I don't think there is any cooler smaller than the Intel boxed, for 775, that is better than it.
Height under 100mm is the #1 thing, however overall size, low weight and clearance, and width are also considerations along with price. And of course the key is silence It feels like asking for the impossible to find something almost as good.jessekopelman wrote:How do you define low-profile? Hi, what CPU are you trying to cool and how much height do you have? My experience with box cooler from E6600 is it's not quiet. Even at very low fan speeds where you'd expect it to be quiet there’s lots of rumble and growl. (ymmv) Alpine 7 probably got nicer noise signature and reasonable cooling with out being huge. Agree ThermalRight XP120/90 as good candidates. Beware the newer Si-120/128 are much taller, if could use with out fan by duct to case fan might be worth a look, there are examples of such systems here in the forums.
The Zalman Flowers might also fit your needs, low profile and the aluminium versions aren't too heavy and the weight is low down. As well as older 7000 and 7700 series there's newer 7500 series. The ThermalTake MaxOrb is similar but with heatpipes and maybe better still, there's a thread about it and fan swap for it. Zalman 9500 series is ~125mm tall and quite good, will fit Antec NSK2400/Fusion with some fin bending/trimming.
I'm using ZeroTherm BTF90 "butterfly" which is ~130mm, as far as I can tell it's the best heatsink for that amount of height, better than Zalman 9500 anyway. The fan isn't good though, I'm looking at ducting to case fans and/or 120mm fan. (good 92mm fan's are hard to find, especially if want >1500rpm top speed for overclocking and/or summer temps.

Yes, these occurred to me too (see my earlier post). The one concern I have about these models is that they don't seem to have a lot of clearance for motherboard obstructions. The Thermalright XPs might fit better on some motherboards. That's the thing, you've got to pick a MB, CPU cooler, and case that all work together. It's a bad idea to look at any of these components in isolation.thejamppa wrote:ZeroTherm has two LGA-775 coolers with heat pipes and low profile. CF900 and CF800. They should be more than enough and cheaper than Thermalrights coolers. Height of CF 900 / CF800 is 77mm

Yeah, that's why I couldn't fit Ninja on my MB anymore when I had to change motherboard. MB was bought for different setup.jessekopelman wrote:Yes, these occurred to me too (see my earlier post).
