I'm looking to make one last upgrade to my socket 939 Epox 9NPA+ Ultra by adding an Opteron 185.
Epox has tanked so there is no support from them anymore. One of the previous bios versions showed capability for the FX-60 so I know it can support the speed. However, there is no Cool 'n Quiet for the Opteron.
Can I get away with just using RMClock to throttle it and keep the heat down on this board?

I would imagine so, but then again, I'm using an Asus mobo with my Opteron 185, so I'm not sure if that's a factor or not. With mine it does support Cool-n-Quiet, but I am just running it at the stock speed undervolted to 1.25v. I know CrystalCPUID works to manipulate the multiplier and voltage on mine just fine.
My logic was same as yours, I believe; I had a single core 3700+, so by buying the 185, I get one last boost of speed before I'll have to replace the whole rig down the road. My only complaint is that the 185 produces so much heat that my Thermalright XP-90 can barely cope with it; peak temps in normal usage hit 56-58C and with 2x Prime95 it tops out at 66C, even undervolted. At the stock 1.35v it actually peaks at around 75C, which is definitely higher than I am comfortable with. I have a Ninja on order which will hopefully keep the temps a lot lower.
