MSI945GT speedster heatsink suggestion?

Post by ledius » Wed Sep 26, 2007 1:22 am

I have MSI 945GT speedster motherboard and I would like to replace the stock CPU heatsing with new one. Has anyone tested heatsinks with this MOBO and has some suggestions for it?

Has enyone tested psm-5000 with speedster?

The MSI 945GT has a lot of room for any socket 478/9 cooler. There shouldn't be any interference problem with psm-5000.

I am using an old Zalman 7000 cu cooler which may even have more cooper than the psm-5000. I have running a T2250 CPU with stock 1.3v and I don't think I can have fanless setup. With the Zalman fan set at lower than 1,000 rpm, the CPU runs between 25-40c.

I would suggest getting a cooler with fan that you can turn off optionally.

As posted, this board will take any S478 cooler. I'm running a T7200 (albiet on a different board) using a passive cooler, but it is in an Antec Fusion case with a pair of 120s pulling air out of the case right next to the cooler.

I can fully second a Zalman 7000 - I'm running an undervolted T5600 completely passively (not even a case fan) in an NSK1300.

A word of warning - if you're planning to replace the heatsink bracket and fit a standard socket 478 cooler, not all of them fit - the CPU sits lower than a P4. So you're limited to coolers which do not rest on the corners of the heatsink bracket.

It good to know that in the antec fusion case can be use with passive CPU heatsink as I have antec NSK2400 case which is similar to fusion.

Thank you for advices.

Get an MSI Mobile Pad(for S754 but works well with S479 chips). That's what I'm running in my T2300 / AOpen i945GTm-VHL / Thermaltake XP90 system with no problems...

I thought it would fit and purchased it. But it does not at all. It seems to be meant for motherboards with the holes closer to each other - like mobile computers. I will return it and purchase a retension bracket and a Ninja Mini or so.
