Asus Triton 70/75 vs CM Vortex 752 vs CM Hyper 212

Post by proc » Tue Aug 26, 2008 12:29 am

Hi everyone,

I need to buy a cheap heatsink for my new E7200. I have the possibility to buy the following ones at my local computer shop:

- Asus Triton 70 (20 EUR)
- Asus Triton 75 (22 EUR + need to buy a fan)
- Cooler Master Vortex 752 (16 EUR)
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 (29 EUR)

which one do you suggest for light overclocking?
Consider I will surely undervolt the HS fan to keep it quiet and I could even not overclock in favor of quietness.

Case is a Cooler Master Stacker 810 (it was a present) with foam dumping and mass loading.

Thanks

I can tell you that a Yate Loon 1200 is at 350 rpm right now in my signature system. The AMD 4000x2 is OC'd to 2.7, but is idling at 1.2G. Even when watching HD the speed never goes above 550rpm. I don't know what to say about the temp as different software reports different things, PC Wizard reports 19C which is exactly ambient in this room right now after light surfing. See what I mean? Biostar Hardware monitor reports same thing, but system temp is reported as 24C which I think is more indicative of core temp as well. I got it from Newegg for $24. went on really, really easy. I would buy it again.

+1 for the CM Hyper212.

Whilst doing my current build, I lost the mounting hardware for my Hr01plus. I really wanted to get the build out of the way, so I ran down to my local and picked up the 212. It was cheap, but certainly not cheap and nasty. The included fan however is. It's not too bad below 500rpm, but anything over that, and all you get is nasty ball bearing noise.

To sum up, it's a half-decent cooler, at a decent price, just beware of the fan.

Thanks neumein for your reply.

I will probably buy the Hyper212 because Triton 70 uses push pins and I don't trust them very much (long time AMD buyer).

Or I could just make the big jump and by an Hr 01plus since the Hyper has the same height, but I would have liked a cheap and not very tall heatsink that I could always use in my other's PCs if needed.

Let's say that now I have the following choices

- Cooler Master Vortex 752 (16 EUR)
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 (29 EUR)
- Thermalright Hr-01 Plus (46 EUR)

I know the Hr-01 is the big champion but I will probably try one of the first two alternatives and then if I'm not convinced buy an Hr-01for my E7200 and use the cheaper heatsink on my AMD pc.

I bought and installed a Vortex 752 and now that I finished moving to my new house I must say I'm very satisfied with it.

It is easy to install on socket 775 and the original fan with Asus Q Fan on silent mode (fan @ 920 RPM) is indistinguishable to me from two 8cm nexus running at 5V.
