Spire has promised quiet coolers before and failed to deliver. This could be a fairly quiet cooler compared to the other screamers Spire makes, but judging by the the (somewhat mismatched) stats, it won't be "very quiet". If you aren't running a top-of-the-line processor, you will likely find the Arctic Cooling TC HSF's to be quieter. I just received a Copper Silent TC, and I'll test it on a 1700+ Tbred-A this weekend to see how much the fan spins up. If you want something that's really quiet, then the all-copper coolers recommended on the site would be your best bet.
Then again, it's not very expensive, so if you want to experiment, go right ahead! It could be the next king of cheap, reasonably-quiet coolers.

Reminds me of this except without the copper insert. Look at the user reviews though!!! 117 averaging 5/5 stars.
However, I don't think the default fan is quiet enough for SPCR. Then again for $12 shipped it's hard to beat.

I'm considering almost the exact same cooler for my old Athlon 1ghz since it's really cheap and I only need something that is relatively quiet (compared to my horrible old Alpha cooler) and will last until next year when I can upgrade to a nice Prescott core P4.
I hope the clip isn't really stiff, I really hate those clips. I've already managed to break one CPU because of them.
They should make more coolers that use the four hole mechanism even though you need to remove the motherboard to install them, they feel a lot more secure too.

I am the importer for Spire products in Australia,
I am also a vendor of quiet cooling products www.lownoisepc.com
the Whisper Rock IV is indeed very quiet,
comparing the Fan off the Whisper Rock IV to a Panaflo FBA08A12L and Papst 8412NGML, I can honestly say that this fan at 12v is just as quiet as the Panaflo and Papst at 12v.
its noise level and pitch is almost exactly the same as the FBA08A12L,
the HSF performance should be the same as the previous Falcon Rock II and this can bee seen in detail from the review that Dans Data did, http://www.dansdata.com/coolercomp_p5.htm#sfr2

Finally I also got my Spire Whisperrock IV
To stress the proc I used Prime95 for a minimum of 30min. All case fans are on 7V. Further the HALT-instruction is enabled, this explains the low CPU idle temps
my proc: thoroughbred XP1800+@XP2600+
room temperature is 25-26 degrees
old cooler is a Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu (31 dBA ):
case idle:30 degrees
proc idle: 36 degrees (proc fan on 7V instead of 12V)
case stressed:32 degrees
proc stressed: 51 degrees
With the Spire Whisperrock IV (21 dBA):
case idle: 32 degrees
proc idle: 32 degrees
case stressed: 34 degrees
proc stressed: 47.5 degrees
So my opinion is that this thing is the best, 10 dB more silent and it still cools 4 degrees better. I think that the best Zalman can't beat this result

Okay I found out for myself the weight of the WhisperRock IV: 330 grams. This includes the fan. I got the weight from this Overclockers review.
http://www.overclockers.com.au/article. ... 195206&P=2
Better then the slk800. Hopefully these will stay on better during transport.

At $16 (Canadian!) for a 80mm heatsink and fan, I am super pleased with my Falcon Rock II - essentially the same thing. Sure, it's not in the same league as a Thermalright or a Zalman, but for about 1/4 the price, how could it be?
The fan is not bad either, the noise profile is fairly unobtrusive.
I think these are the best thing out there for budget noise freaks like me.

In Canada, the AX7 runs around $30 if you can find it. Add the cost of a fan, and it's not in the same price category.
The AX7 was my first choice, based on info from here. But I just couldn't justify the cost. I'm waiting on getting a fan controller to see how well the el cheapo spire does undervolted.

Here being? Remember, this is a Canadian site with an international user base. We don't all live in the world's biggest economy. Up north and in a lot of other places there is no newegg.com, Best Buy and Circuit City slugging it out for that big slice of American Pie. Places like here, the expensive stuff almost always stays more expensive, even if it's a generation old.
Hence the Falcon Rock etc. Cheap not because it's old, but because it's cheap. Works OK because it's a simple good big design with plenty of room for a low airflow 80.

I never realized how expensive and/or unavailable consumer items were for the rest of the world until I started visiting here. I was even surprised to see how much Canadians have to pay for the same products found here in the US.
I really am thankful and since becoming a member here, I am no longer taking it for granted in the way that I used to.

Socket 370
I'm told it will suit the VIA C3 1200mHz on socket 370 as well.
Users here fame if for being both quiet and affordable.

This is the cooler I have at the moment. I think it's really quite good, sure its probably not as good as a zalman 7000 series cooler but for low airflow situations I don't think it'd be too far off the likes of the thermalright coolers.
I find the stock fan is about the same as an equivalent panaflo at 12V, too loud at 12V for a lot of people here but I find I can cool my 2500+ with it down to about 7-8V if I don't mind the temps reaching about 60C (bear in mind its been getting up to 35C ambient lately). Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if you could cool a 1.2GHZ C3 with this cooler on 5-6V with either the stock fan or a panaflo which would be pretty quiet.
I'd say the whisper rock IV is by far the best choice in its price range for quiet cooling, great for those looking to cool many computers relativly quietly.

I have one of these coolers in my computer, and I agree that for its price, the Spire WhisperRock IV is a great value for a quiet cooler. It is the same thing as the Speeze VultureSpin, but in a different color. Spire and Speeze are both brand names of FannerTech.
Oh, and it will fit Socket A/370/7, so it should work just fine for that VIA C3 1200.

If it's as noisy as a Panaflo at 12V then it is not quieter than a Papst at 12V.Rod M wrote: comparing the Fan off the Whisper Rock IV to a Panaflo FBA08A12L and Papst 8412NGML, I can honestly say that this fan at 12v is just as quiet as the Panaflo and Papst at 12v.
