Mini ITX case M350 cooler

Post by jordi.c » Sat Oct 23, 2010 11:00 am

Hi,

I would like to change my stock cooler Core i3-530 for a more advance quiter cooler.

This case is so small that the stock Intel cooler exactly fits. I was thinking about the Prolimatech Samuel 17 with a Scythe Slipstream Slim (12mm) This will make it total to 45+12=57mm.

I have had the Scythe Big Shuriken before and I read that the prolimatech is as high. This will mean the Samuel 17 won't fit!

Can I cool my Core I3-530 cool passive with the Samuel 17??

Are there any SFF builders in here?

Best Regards,
Jordi

There are, but unfortunately, with the M350, stock's pretty much the tallest you can go.

Ok, I just received the Prolimatech Samuel 17 CPU cooler.

I have some questions and would be delighted if some can help me answering.

1) What is the amount of cfm processed by the stock intel cooler?

2) Is 2x 40mm Mini Kaze (2x 13DB) as quiet as the intel stock cooler?

3) Will 2x 40mm on the side of the Samuel 17 (on the top is not enough space left) be enough for cooling core i3-530?

4) Will my CPU stay as cool as the intel stock cooler setup with Samuel 17 and 2x 40mm Scythe Mini Kaze fans on the side?

Look, you've got the cooler. Just try running w/ it fanless for a while and see what happens to temps. Probably will not be good for long artificial stress testing (prime95, etc), but that's not normal usage.

Also, since the case is so "holey", depending on how you have it mounted (on the back of a monitor for example), attaching a slow spinning fan on the OUTSIDE of the case might work perfectly well.

I would stay away from any 40mm fans.

Hi MikeC,

Thanks for your reply. The reason that I didn't mount and test it fanless is b/c I can return it now if it haven't been used. I only wanted to know you vision about this cooling project :) So it's really tempting to return it and use the stock cooler from Intel.

The only thing this HTPC will be used for is WMC live-TV and playback Movies.

Is there no benefit/ airflow from a 40mm fan?
