New Transmeta Efficeon CPU

Post by POLIST8 » Tue Aug 12, 2003 5:16 am

Press Release here:

It's nice seeing a company that does care about efficiency and pollution more than the Ghz crown...

sounds pretty good. :D

i would take battery life over performance in a laptop anyday. hopefully using the efficeon, there will be a laptop made with 10+ hours battery life

That would be very nice indeed. Unfortunately previous Transmeta laptops have been almost exclusively for Japan market only.

I hope they get more plentiful and wider distribution this time.

It would be nicer to see such a company make real money! I haven't seen many Transmeta chips actually in use. Same with Via's CPUs. A 12-watt VIA 1GHz C3 chip is dirt cheap, but they still don't sell. I guess it's hard when a 1.3GHz Duron is just as cheap, and can blast the socks off of the C3 at an equivalent clock rate.

Any chance AMD might go for an efficiency crown with enough push from consumers?
