What compound to lube the external part of fans?

Post by inet » Sun Nov 14, 2004 12:57 am

Ok I already use motor oil to use inside the reservor of my case fan, now I need a compound/grease/lubricant for the external part of fan.

I cannot use motor oil because ethat is a hazard to the electronics.

What do you guys recommend? I am all out of ideas.

er... only parts that need to be lubricated are the bearings, and none of those are external. :?
what would you lubricate the outside for? it's not touching anything, and it'd collect dust amazingly fast

Try a can of spray silicone....a type that completely dries. There is a "wet" type that would remain sticky.

Maybe a coating of silicone on the fan blades would reduce friction with the air.....quite a stretch.

Clearly only goose or bear grease is appropriate for lubricating up the outside of the fans, although some claim that this actually decreases fan performance from the sheer weight of the ants on the blades.

I stupidly wd-40'd externally of 2 fans, between the very narrow gap in center where the spinning plastic is, and where there is no spinning plastic.

Now both fans are louder... that's why Im asking
