Which Fans Would You Buy?
Hi folks,
I'm trying to figure out which fans I should sell. These are some that I know are pretty quiet that I can get for a decent price. Which ones would you possibly buy? Please list any/all that interest you:
*Panaflo 80mm (FBL08A12L1A) and 92mm (FBA09A12L1BX) low-speed variants
*Evercool/AOC 80mm and 120mm aluminum-framed fans (single BB, low-speed)
*Tek-Chain 92mm and 120mm (TC-9CAS-BL, TC-12CAS-BL) w/adjustable speed knob, sleeve bearing
*Nexus 80mm 92mm and 120mm (SP802512L, DF1209SL-3, D12SL-12), sleeve bearing
*Yate Loon 120mm (D12SL-12), sleeve bearing
*Akasa Amber Series 80mm, 92mm, and 120mm, dual ball-bearing
Your input is greatly appreciated! I will likely offer customized options for each one of these fans (ex: 900 RPM 120mm Yate Loon) for a small price. Sorry if this post is annoying... I just want to get an idea of what fans I should/shouldn't stock if I go through with this.

Hi Ghz,
you're living in the states, correct?
I'll list the fans that I personally think should be the best considering noise for SPCR kind of computer users (and that have positive reviews from SPCR users that have tested more than enough fans):
- Yate Loon D12SL-12 (although quite many places sell them these days and for a cheap price)
- All sizes of Nexus (simply because I think they are overpriced)
- Tekchain 120mm (good review from ie. frankgehry)
The Panaflos might be an option, but only if you can get them from a proper source (for the reasons I told you in an earlier thread). If you can get a smaller sample batch of them and find that they are not banged up surplus stock, definately yes. Otherwise not worth the trouble, people can buy crappy surplus from eBay.com for a few bucks if they want...

I would be interested in the fans listed below:
I'm surprised about all the positive experiences with the Akasa Amber series of fans; mine sounds like a tractor at full speed. Maybe I just got a bad sample.*Tek-Chain 92mm and 120mm (TC-9CAS-BL, TC-12CAS-BL) w/adjustable speed knob, sleeve bearing
*Nexus 80mm 92mm and 120mm (SP802512L, DF1209SL-3, D12SL-12), sleeve bearing

Panaflo (everyone loves them, even people who arnt into silence)
Nexus (for the spcr freaks like us)
Papst (just because their so hard to get, and really are good fans)
me personally, if i were buying an 80mm fan id go with panaflo L1A for the add'd cfm with still a low noise signiture. its the spcr reference fan for a reason but id suggest you also stock and sell the M1A's and H1A's of all panaflo sizes because their so popular with just about every pc crowd.
but for 92mm and 120mm id go with the nexus fans, because at these sizes i feel i can lose some rpm's since im gaining cfm in the size.
papst just because no one sells them, and everyone asks for them. i have a few, and they really are good fans.

I'm getting a 92mm Panaflo sample from jab-tech... hopefully it won't be as bad as all the other samples I've seen. If it's good, then I can get a bunch from Digikey. The 80Ls that I've seen are pretty good too, while the 120x38mm fans are way too loud. I'd like to carry the Amber series fans because I can get them in all sizes and they're pretty good ball-bearing candidates. The AOC/Evercool aluminum fans are also good... I'll have to see how they compare to the Akasa fans.
Personally I just ordered 4 acousticfan dustproofs as I have checked UK sources and they are rated better that the nexus ones, at 5V they are at 10db shifting 25.2 air volume, speed at 625, what more can you ask for and because the bearings are sealed away the fans will last longer, take a look here at the 120mm version

Haven't tested these personally (Acousti dustproofs), but the specs are BS. That fan is an ADDA IP55-rated fan...
ADDA figures 1800RPM (72CFM) and 34.4dB(A).
Acoustifan figures 1500RPM (56,3CFM) at 24,7dB(A)
Now that doesn't add up. If you count the Acoustifan real figures according to the manufacturer figures you get 60CFM and 30,4dB(A) at 1500RPM.
Acoustifan claim 24.7dB(A).
However Acousti's CFM claim is 56.3CFM, which would indicate 1400RPM, not 1500RPM. The specs to go with that 56CFM would then be 1400RPM at 28.9dB(A)
Now doesn't that make sense...I didn't know just swapping the label on a fan can make it so much quieter!?

Well, nothing's for sure, I don't work for ADDA or Acoustifan:lol:
The frame and blade shapes match, also because of the IP55-rating. I'm not sure how many of the usual fan makers (excluding Papst, Sanyo Denki, NMB-MAT... these are quite pricey for relabelling) do those... Papst does one, but it has longer lifetime. That's why many industrial applications where the IP-rating matters go for the Papst.
(IP55 = Protected against dust - limited ingress (no harmful deposit) and protected against low pressure jets if water from all directions - limited ingress permitted)
