50x50x10 Fan...

Post by DrJ » Sun Jan 01, 2006 12:21 pm

I'm looking for a "quiet" 50mm x 50mm x 10mm fan with roughly 9 cfm of air flow. No, none of these is truly quiet, but that is the only size that will work for me. So please do not suggest using a large or thicker one. (This is for an old Sun Ultra 1E clone).

I've come across the Evercool line, and some of the offerings look attractive. One, for example, claims 8.4 cfm and <20 dB noise (I'm skeptical). Does anyone have experience with these fans? Are there others that may be more attractive?

Dorothy Bradbury (respected fan guru) recommends the Delta EFB0512LA (7.4 CFM @ 18 dB), but they’re not listed on her site. Very satisfied with the one I use.

Thanks for the reply -- these do look pretty good (and they are easy to come by). Do you know if they come in a three-wire version? If not, this is probably not a big deal, as I don't think there is an on-die CPU temperature monitor anyway.

Mine is a 2 wire - plugs into the mobo. It’s a little louder than a Nexus 80mm, that I have in the same case, but the Delta is blowing against a restrictive heatsink, where as the Nexus is a less restricted case fan.

I got a vantec hard drive cooler because I needed a 50mm fan. I was surprised to find that the fans are made by adda. The model nuber is AD0512HS-G70(T). Can't really tell if they're good for 50mm fans, the noise is a high pitched hum.

The fan labels are different than the ones in the pics on newegg.

I've seen Adda fans advertised at one of the major electronics suppliers. I don't know anything about them, so I decided to wait on delivery of the recommended Delta. They will be arriving at Sidewinder later in the month.
