Panaflow vs. Antec TriCool

Post by BrianF » Fri May 12, 2006 8:46 am

Please forgive if this has allready been hashed out but.....

I'm just wondering if a FBA12G12L1A at 5V would be any better than the 12cm Antec "TriCool" thats coming in all their cases (set to "L" of course).

Same noise more air? Same air less noise?

Forget the TriCool!
I have one that came with my P150: first I used it at 12 Volt/Low. After a week it started to make an annoying clicking/ticking sound. Then I ran it at 5 Volt/High: same issue after 8-10 days of use. Have to dump it and get a Nexus.

I'm also dissapointed about the TriCools. Even on low, I was tired of them the same afternoon, as I got my P180. I ditched them in favor for Nexus at 5-6 volt.

But to be fair, TriCools moves the same amount of air at low, as a Nexus at 12 volt. Compared this way, I read in a review somewhere on this site, that the noise are about the same. I havent compared myself, but I think it's true.

But others seem to like TriCools; So if you get them included with a case, try them out. But if you're buying new separate fans, I suggest you go for safe choises like Nexus or Panaflo (dont know which model, though)

The Panaflo 120x38mm fan is going to be noiser than an Antec TriCool. Even at 5V the Panaflo is going to emit an unpleasant chugging sound, especially if it's a BX variant. I would steer clear of them and get a Nexus/Yate Loon D12SL-12 or GlobalWin 1202512L. An alternative would be the Scythe S-FLEX series if you want a potentially more reliable fan. I've had first-hand experience with multiple samples of all the fans I've mentioned. HTH!
