Greetings.. I recently installed a Thermalright ultra 120 extreme with a Scythe sff21f fan attached. This fan is rated at 1600rpms, but even though I have the auto fan control disabled on the motherboard, the fan only shows it running at 1490rpm (using speedfan). The fan itself has 3 pins and is attached to the cpu fan header on my gigabyte ga-p35-ds4 mb.
Any ideas as to the problem? The thermal throttling for the CPU is turned off as well, and right now I'm running the Everest stability test for my q6600 @ 3.2ghz (8x400) and getting temps of 57/51/47/47 max
Yes I know I'm being picky, but it just seems strange.
Thanks!

There is some variation from part to part.
The extra RPMs aren't going to make a difference in your case.

I suspect most rpm specs are listed as +/- 10%.....so you're well within acceptable range. If you run the fan at 12V for a few days, chances are it will gain some speed. Not to worry...

Actually, I've been reading around, and I'm wondering since the fan is a 3pin connector with PWM connected to a 4 pin MB socket, the MB doesn't have a way to read the fanspeed, since it's just running at 1600RPM all the time.. and maybe the bios only supports speeds up to 1490rpm?
