help me choose case fan

Post by GermanJulian » Wed Oct 08, 2003 1:39 am

help!!!!! I got my barton 2800 slk947u heatsink zalman pasive graphics heatsink (new one) and zalman fan controller. All is really nice and quite and still cool (54C load with fans slow).

however 2 intake case fans are making a horrible sound when at full speed (which i use when playing games etc) so i wanted to get some good case fans which i can adjust. i got the thermaltake smart fan 2 which is utter rubbish. at mediums speeds it ok abut at low speeds it starts vibrating and making a horrible loud sound so i quickly but my old fans back which are better. who said they are quite and below 20db  . so i am asking you what 80cm canse fans should i get. they should at least push 27cfm when at full speed and should be really quite and when at low speed they should be really silent without vibrating sounds. and I obviously need a 3 pin fan  man. or can i get a 4 pin fan and convert it to 3?

so heres a list of fans i can get

Evercool 80mm 3 pin 29cfm but no noise description
Panaflo 80mm 4 Pin Fan
Papst 80mm 4 Pin at 34cfm at 26db but not adjustabel
YSTech 80mm Lo Noise 3 Pin 27CFM at 20db but i think i have these allready and they started making a whining noise after 3 months

THIS IS THE ONE????
Vantec Stealth 80mm Silent Case Fan 27CFM at 21db

GermanJulian,

both the Panaflo and the Papst are good. Buy a fan controller (you *really* should) and you're set.

I would recommend the Panaflo. Even if you can't get it as a 3-pin where you are, you can always try and find a 4-pin to 3-pin adapter for it, then plug it into the fan controller.

You could do like I did, use two panaflo's wired at 6v, wire them in series and you get decent airflow with to me, no noise at all, don't forget to mount the fans with some type of foam or silicone grommets to adsorb vibro's.

I've read some Papst fans make an annoying clicking noise...

You read write, the Papst have been renowned to click when the voltage is dropped, and don't believe their 12dB specs......way overrated as mentioned in many of their reviews (and even more posts on this great website :D )
