n00b question about the fan on the heatsink

Post by theheckwithyou » Tue Jan 13, 2004 6:02 pm

hi

The fan on the heatsink, does the fan suck the air up or blow it down?
I am planning to use the stock p4 2.8 heatsink/fan.

i only ask this question cuz i have read the DIY putting a air duct. and i want to do that, but leaving the fan on the heatsink.

thanks

Welcome to the SPCR Forums!

I believe that the fan of the stock Intel HSF blows downwards on the heatsink.

If you plan on ducting that CPU with the stock Intel heatsink, I certainly would suggest you to use a larger heatsink such as an Alpha (which is specifically designed for "sucking" airflow).

Nope.

Yes.

Alpha 8942 for $30. This is Alpha's S478 heatsink. I've used one for over a year on my OC'ed 2.66GHz P4. Works great.
