Evercool 120mm best mount method?

Post by NetTechie » Sun Jun 13, 2004 2:03 am

What is the best way to mount one of these aluminum fans? Their real heavy... so using grommets must be done with care. What is the best way to safely mount them decoupled?

I used the Verax sticks from Directron. Keeps everything nice and secure.

I used a mixture of grommets and cable-ties.

I.e. - grommet in hole, one cable-tie going through the fan + chassis hole, 2nd cable-tie doing the actual "tying". It's a method that Bluefront came up with, and it works a treat. :).

I used the Verax/Directron sticks as well.

But I'd remove the fan if I were to take the PC far distances (Lanning).

I've never had trouble with it when moving my case from the desk to another area in the house though.

But Bluefront's method is best if you want totally secure.

I have a question... how do the mounts from McMasters work, the #5801K8 here on aluminum 120mm evercools?

Bluefront, do you have a forum topic devoted to how to do this? What washer model/source are those?

*edit* did I mention I am going to mount this on an LX-6A19 from directron, and cut out the fan grills (front and back) and cover back hole with a wire grill, so grill will have to be held on in some way by the mount method. Front will not have an extra wire grill, since it's protected by filter.

Here's another photo showing a fan and grill mounted using this method. It's easy....the rubber grommets are cut-up pieces of small automotive vacuum hose. Use a piece of this rubber between the fan and the case so only rubber touches the metal. Works good.

Rubber auto hose? Very creative! Do you think it has the silencing properties of the EAR stuff tho? Maybe use a stack of McMaster/EAR hard drive grommets for the same perpose? Number #9311K138? Would that be even better? Or Not?

Any sort of soft rubber would work. No way I'm buying things I can get for free.... :D

No, those won't work. They're designed to be used on normal fans that have a flange on each side. The Evercools have a solid hole that runs from one side of the fan to the other.

Agree with Ralph. The Rubber sticks from Directron are of a different design than the EAR isolators. The rubber sticks can be used with the Evercool, the ear mounts can't.

I've driven 150 miles (3 times) with the Evercool mounted on the rubber sticks, never had a problem with the fan staying secure.

Looking at the picture I can't even figure out how those sticks work... could you enlighten me? Is there a thread with pics of them installed?

Search the forums for "directron AND sticks" or "verax AND sticks" and you should find more info about them. They have been discussed quiet a bit.

Thanks Ralf

*edit* I'm probly blind, but I didn't find any posts with actual pictures of these sticks in action... and how they work... link maybe? Thanks if you do remember one with pics!

Think the most cost effective, secure (and silent) method will be Bluefronts probly.

Those are the directron sticks in the link? Jeeze... I wouldn't trust those w/a heavy fan myself. Thanks for the link :)

Too risky, if you want to move your case (like I do).

Much rather prefer Bluefront's patented cable-tie method (tm) :D.

Can I use the same mounting sticks that came with the Antec BQE case fan to mount the Evercool aluminum fan on the back of the BQE case?
