What Do I connect to the vreg fan header on Intel D875PBZLK?

Post by Marxx » Tue Jul 13, 2004 12:41 am

Hello, i have an Antec Sonata case, with 2 Antec 120mm case fans. I was wondering what exactly is the vreg fan header for? Is this where the blue fan monitoring wire from the psu connects to? Also, do you recommend plugging my case fans to the motherboard headers, or to the 5v fan only connectors on the PSU? Thanks,........Marxx

Here is a link to Intel's website for the Bonanza motherboard. All of the connectors are explained:

Essentially the VReg (Voltage Regulator) connector is to monitor the fan speed of your PSU if it provides the proper connection for it.

Thanks for the reply, My Antec 380s psu does have a fan monitoring Blue wire lead, so I guess I'll connect it to the vreg header. Thanks for the link.....Marxx

AFAIK, the VREG connector can be used by any fan, not just the PSU fan.

Do you guys recommend connecting my Antec 120mm fans to the "fan only" connectors off the power supply which i think is 5v, or to the front & rear fan headers on the motherboard? Do 120mm fans draw too much power from the motherboard? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

That's what they're there for. Plug 'em in. It will make the fan run quietly. Theoretically, the PSU will increase the voltage to the Fan-Only connectors in the event that things get too hot. In practice, it takes some serious heat to get the PSU to raise the voltage significantly.
