Fan controller for Antec Sonata?

Post by XIII » Sun Mar 06, 2005 1:39 am

Hello! I just found this site and forum and I have to say, great!!
Very informative and interesting.I just picked up a new PS for my Nforce 4 setup. Thanks to you guys my choice was the Seasonic s12-500W.(It seemed to be a popular brand here).I'm very happy with it so far, nice and quiet. Now on to my question(with the risk of sounding stupid).I'm using this PS in my Antec Sonata case but I need a fan controller for the 12cm rear fan, my version of this PS don't have a fan control choice.
If I plug in the rear fan's 4-pin plug directly to the PS it's WAY to load!!
Now the fan controllers I've seen only seem to support fans with 3-pin connectors. Is there any way around this? I've been looking for a female 4-pin to female 3-pin adapters but they don't seem to exist.
Is there a solution to this?

Cut the yellow and black wire that's next to it, and attach a 3 pin PCB connector block to them. That's what I did with my fan.

Wiring diagram for socket, key at back (the key's the plastic thing behind the pins):

Code: Select all

    ___
   / \
 # | # | #
 # | # | #
 # | # | #
 # | # | #
 # | # | #
-----------
 | | |
 | +12v |
 | |
RPM earth
Thus you would put the yellow in the middle and the black on its right (from above with key at back).

just as Chris mentioned, you need to buy a 3pin plug and wire it yourself

as for a fan controller, the generic one reviewed here fits nicely behind the drive door.

Yes, if you have a free header on your mobo, then that is enough.
