phew.. just got my glacialtech gt12252bdl shipment

Post by yeha » Thu Mar 10, 2005 11:05 am

took a bit of a chance i know ;) but i ordered 100 of these 120mm ball-bearing fans on a hunch, and it seems to have paid off. they're very impressive imho - rebadged/resistor-aided everflow r121225bl fans, 9-bladed, 950 rpm, of the black variety spec'ed here.

the only other 120mm fan i have is a blue led d12sm-12, and the glacialtech beats it hands down for me - less motor noise (from a ball bearing fan?!) and it feels like a bit more air at the same speed, i guess the 9 blades are doing something. starts at 4.8 volts too. tested 5 so far, they're all identical. only real problem is the closed screw housing :-(

now i just have to figure out how/where to sell them :? stay tuned for a post in the classifieds coming soon.. will i need to be marked as a vendor?

Well, I can only agree... had mine for three months now and I love it! It's way quieter than my seagate 7200.7 and not noisier than my undervolted panaflo in my PSU...

the price is another sticking point :(

though i'd like to, i can't realistically charge less than $12, because they came through a reseller instead of straight from taiwan. if i got them from taiwan (friendly people at glacialtech-tw too) i could charge $8 or so, however their minimum order quantities are much higher and i have no idea how to get something from a taiwanese dock to my doorstep in south carolina.

just taking a quick look at payment options, i may have to go with paypal to start with - merchant go-betweens ilke ccnow, ccavenue etc. take a chunk out due to credit card authorization fees, and paypal can avoid that as it debits directly from bank accounts. or there's always checks in the mail i suppose.

if anyone is super-keen to get one and has a paypal account, drop me a pm. i guess shipping would be $2 with usps first class, depends on how much those padded envelope things they have are. i'll head to the post office tomorrow to figure it all out.

As soon as you post prices, I'll probably take two. You can never have too many fans laying around. FYI, PayPal does take a percentage when someone sends you money.

hm this is a quick copy/paste from the fees screen:

Code: Select all

                   Personal Account Premier/Business Account
Open an Account Free Free
Send Money Free Free
Withdraw Funds Free (US accounts) Free (US accounts)
Add Funds Free Free
Receive Funds Free 1.9% + $0.30 USD to 2.9% + $0.30 USD
i'm not going with a premier/business account, which means i won't be able to accept credit card payments. all i'll be able to receive (apparently) are payments from people who've added their bank account details so paypal can do a direct debit - this is how paypal gets around the cc authorization fees that'd cripple them otherwise.

I see. I have the Business Account, so I get charged any way the money comes in.

IIRC someone posted a direct comparison in this forum a while back. Good luck searching ;)

i hope it's not against the rules to advertise in these side forums, but i've posted an ad in the classifieds for anyone interested. $13 per fan unfortunately :( an accountant urged me to increase the price, lest i get a nasty surprise come tax season.

I got hold of a couple of these in Australia.

I find them to be very quiet at 12v - mainly a whooshing noise, about as loud as a Zalman CPNS7000 at 5v.

Perhaps just slightly louder than the stock fan on an Antec 3700BQE, but pushes a bit more air I think.
However, when undervolted, there is a distinct whine under say 10-11v, which is irritating enough that they seem quieter at the say 11v than lower.

If you want a quiet 120mm that pushes a fair amount of air, get one of these. If you want an ultra-silent fan @ 5v, look elsewhere. For the price though, these would have to be an excellent proposition. (A$12.50)
