Scythe Slipstreams - clicking

Post by Eagle156 » Sat Feb 09, 2008 4:08 pm

One of my Slipstream 800rpms developed a clicking seemingly overnight. What seems to happen is that as the fan is turning, it slightly moves in and out, creating a noise. You can recreate it easily just by moving the blades with your finger. It keeps getting worse and worse, and now I can sometimes easily hear it above everything else in the case. What can I do to stop this? Is the quality control on these that bad? Even though it's an excellent fan otherwise I expected better considering its reputation.

Hello,

Are you controlling the speed, and if so, are you using a PWM-type controller?

No, they're all at 12v. It's a mechanical noise. I'm guessing that it's slightly rubbing against something because you can recreate the noise with the fan off by slightly pushing it in and out. It seems to be better now, I'll see how it behaves later on.

One of my 800RPMs did that as well, I spent some time pushing the fan in and out and spinning it with my finger while frustrated... and after doing that the clicking stopped

A small quibble... your topic title sez "Slipstreams (plural) clicking, but it seems that only one of your units click. Big difference between a single-unit problem and a generic problem!
