What's up with two-pin fan header on GA-MA78GM-S2H?

Post by jack_aubrey » Wed Jul 16, 2008 11:03 pm

My Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (rev 1.1, I'm pretty sure) has got normal CPU and SYS FAN headers. Then it's got a header labelled "NB FAN" with two pins (it can be seen here, just above and to the right of the PCIe x16 slot).

What's up with this? Some sort of special Northbridge fan you can only get from Gigabyte? It would be nice if I could use it to power some direct airflow on the NB, but a regular 3-pin fan plug won't go here.

2-pin fan header is most common for 40mm fans, which are probably ment to use in Northbridge. Any 40mm fan probably will do, but Scythe Mini Kaze is among quietest.

What would be the best way to attach a 40mm fan to that NB ?

It looks like a drop of grazy glue, unless there is screw holes. Imagination sets limit I guess. Maybe Gigabyte has fan holder there?

Sticky foam. It's like tape but made of foam. Wall-mounting foam pads will also work. You can find them and any store that has the typical home decor stuff.
