So i found this site and feel free to lambast me if its already been mentioned here a million times but i have never seen stuff like this before. They have these thermal switches that are rated to a certain temperature then close the circut - potentially powering more fans to get the temp back down again. For silentPC work this seems incredibly valuable - letting you only run your cooling when you need to.

One annoyance with a thermostat-style fan switch is that there's a step change in noise level, more noticeable than that from a supply voltage that varies with temperature, like their thermal controller board.
