Bought 3 Slipstreams 1200 all 3 broken...?
As my trusted Nexus 120mm fans wore out (got that zzzzzzzz grinding high pitched noise and started to vibrate badly) after almost 2 years of service. So I decided to try something new and choice fell on Slipstream 1200rpm fans.
Ordered and after 2 weeks 2 of them got same high pitched noise I had with my failed Nexus The third decided that it should manage speed itself. Right now it spins up and down between 650 to 1450 rpm......!? No vibrations though
Is it just my bad luck or did you ppl heard or experienced something like this before. Bad batch maybe ? I did not have them delivered by mail, I picked them up myself.

A working fan with bearings in good working condition should not make a high pitched noise nor vibrate excessively so there we agree.vertigo wrote:What high pitched noise? A fan shouldn't make high pitched noise.
But if you read my first post you will see that high pitched noise showed up in my nexus when their bearings gave up and started to vibrate after almost 2 years of use...All bearings have EOL.
Point is that these Scythes showed same behavior after only 2 weeks whereas it took almost 2 years for Nexus fans to fail.
Its perfectly normal for fans built on sleeve bearings to fail in about 1.5-2 years in my experience, but not in 2 weeks. Fans have been used vertically.
Yes, the buzzing fans are defective. Doesn`t matter whether they are defective or got damaged during transport.
As for the third fan, are you sure it`s actually varying it`s speed? Have you noticed a change in noise/airflow when the reading is changing? Sometimes speedfan (and other monitoring programs I imagine) fail to read the speed correctly. It might help if you play with the "fan divider" properties. It also could be due to a fan header with erratic behavior.

Model nr is: SY1225SL12M and I doubt that they got wrong sticker on since it's speed was constant at beginning, although little high (1450rpm) since the fans are specced to 1200rpm but deviation at about +-10% is usual.xan_user wrote:What model # fans? there are some variable speed models- or maybe they got the wrong stickers put on?
