Gentle Typhoon or Apache?

Post by jamestuk » Tue May 11, 2010 12:06 pm

Need some new fans for my radiators.

Should I go for 5x Gentle Typhoons (seems to be the running favourite nonPWM at the moment), or should I buy Apaches instead. Fans will mostly be running at low-medium speeds and will all be attached to radiators. 2 of the fans are mounted horizontally.

Oh and automatically controlled by temperature for either option.

I just got a bunch of GTs, and have been very impressed with the quality and noise (or lack of) from them. The airflow through the radiator is also impressive. For comparison I have a bunch of various speed/size yate loons, and I think the GTs are better noise/performance to the YLs.

I know its pure anecdotal (which I hate doing), but the reviews I can find:

support the idea the GTs are great fans. I do not have an apache fan for comparison, so can't really say which is better.

I've never used an Apache fan, but I love my 1,150RPM Gentle Typhoon. I used it to replace the cheap fan in my PSU, and I can't even hear it over the rest of my computer. :D My PSU isn't a higher efficiency model (Xion 630W), but it's never even had a chance to overheat with that Gentle Typhoon in there.
