Noctua NF-S12B FLX vs Scythe S-flex

Post by johnniecache7 » Thu May 26, 2011 5:19 am

How does the Noctua NF-S12B FLX 1,200 rpm compare to the Scythe S-Flex 1,200 rpm? Scythe has stopped making the S-Flex and I'm now thinking of running the Noctua NF-S12B FLX 1,200 rpm. I want to run three for intake, exhaust, on the Noctua NH-U12P SE2. I assume they perform similar since they output the same airflow according to SPCR review of the NF-S12 1,200 rpm and NF-S12B is nothing but slightly tweaked version of the NF-S12.

A bit of topic, but do you know why Scythe doesn't produce any more S-FLEX? It has also happened with some Slip Streams here in Denmark, but maybe that's just a coincidence or because of the lack of demand.

They replaced them with the EX-FDB bearing series aka the Karma Flow 2 but there inferior at least the 1,400 rpm version is that replaces the 1,200 rpm S-flex. There is 900rpm version that I assume would be decent but it doesn't push enough air for my useage.

Another reference mark, and in Spain are installing a lot for silent PC is bequiet Silent Wings with its range USC.

They are amazing, no engine noise and they offer similar benefits to Noctua. I have three mounted on my core i5 2500.

If vertically mounted, you could also try Noiseblocker fan, they are really good
(XL1/XL2/PL1/PL2 or maybe M12-S2 which ran at ~1250rpm)

I personally prefer These Noiseblocker over Noctua or Scythe (BeQuiet are good too), if vertically mounted of course.

Afraid I have limited choice with the builder its the newer EX-FDB scythe fans or Noctuas or else I would hunt down S-flex stock. Noctuas use similar sealed sleeve bearing much like the FDB bearing so shouldn't matter which way there mounted as that only effects stardard sleeve bearing fans like the Yate Loon,Nexus,Slipstream.

These were well reviewed at xbit labs...on par with the scythe.
