Would be interesting to try one of these on a SLK-900 for max cooling with a 120mm fan
The small funnel would increase air velocity
now if only they made a 40mmm to 80mm adaptor with a funnel.
The funnel would increase air velocity, and the 80mm runs quieter than a 40mm for a videocard

How would you attach it to the SLK-900?CoolColJ wrote:http://www.pccasegear.com/prod561.htm

My two cents: If you use a fan adapter -- make sure that you mount the fan to suck instead of blow. Otherwise, the funnel shape will decrease airflow too much for the adapter to do the job right.
I use a 80 -> 120 mm adaptor on my Alpha PAL8045. With a Papst 120 mm at 5 V i achieve slightly lower temperatures than when using an 80 mm Papst at 12 V, and a *lot* less noise to boot.

CoolColJ: Yes, blowing through an adapter will work better than using a smaller fan, but requires a heatsink which works well with low airflow fans. Since larger fans usually work with lower speeds, the increased resistance will hamper the performance compared to a fan sucking through the same adapter.
OTOH, a sucking configuration works best with a heatsink made to perform with a sucking fan, and vice versa with blowing fans. I use a good heatsink, requiring less airflow, and mainly use a rheostat-coupled exhaust fan to adjust the airflow to the operating conditions. At idle or light work, all fans (120 mm on PAL8045, 120 mm exhaust, 80 mm in power supply unit) are set to 5 V or just above. The case is a Compucase 6A-21 -- lovely case with the two 120 mm fan mounts!

Hey, that's interesting! I hadn't considered using superglue for that task...Jan Kivar wrote:With style (a la Halcyon): Superglue.al bundy wrote:How would you attach it to the SLK-900?
