??? Yate Loon Fan Source
Hello,
I have been reading all of the posts about the Nexus (Yate Loon) fans. I wasn't able to track any down at geeks.com, tekgems, or isellsurplus. I am also not real fond of the orange color (personal preference) or the $20.00 price tag for the Nexus fans. I was also looking for a fan that gave more RPM potential if needed (it gets very hot where I live) but could also be turned down for acoustics when appropriate.
Anyway, I found these fans (see link below) after much searching over the past couple of days. They appear to be Yate Loon model D12SM-12 (although unable to confirm at this point). They are $5.50 each or 10 for $45.00. I ordered a couple yesterday to check them out. I have no idea whether they are any good or not. Everyone here has been so helpful I just thought I would share this info.
I ordered them yesterday afternoon and received my shipping confirmation and UPS tracking number by email today. If you feel adventerous the link to the page is below.
Thanks for all the great info.

Black D12SM-12
I have a black D12SM-12, but I suppose the one at pctek could also be a D12SL-12 or something all together different. I went ahead and ordered 10 hoping that it will have rpm sensing. They are in New Jersey so I should get mine soon. - FG

I did ask them, after they sent me the label saying it was Yate Loon, if it was only a 4-pin. They verified it was. Trust me, I was ready to pick up 4 of these things if they were 3-pin. But now, I have no desire.frankgehry wrote:No way. The listing does not give you any information. As you discovered it is a D12SM-12. It probably has a 4 pin and a 3 pin connector just like the orange and clear blue fans from tekgems. Be optimistic. - FG

AFAIK, the 4-pin connectors don't support RPM monitoring. The three pin connectors have two power wires and a RPM monitor. The 4 pin connectors only have two power wires. I think.moshen wrote:what's wrong with having a 4 pin on it instead of a 3 pin?
i wouldn't care if it had stripped leads... just make your own connector...

rpm sensing
M,
There may not be anything wrong but I'm not sure that they will have rpm sensing. Even if they don't it will be OK, but I like to be able to read the speed w/fan controller. - FG

pctekonline - yate loon 80mm also?
After following this post for a while, I decided to see if pctekonline has any other interesting fans. It seems the only other fan they stock looks like a Yate Loon 80mm. Again, no specs posted, and it's a lousy pic, but they are only $2.75/ea. or 10 for $20.

I seem to remember people on the forum mentioning that 80mm nexus / yate loon are not as high quality as the 120s, but at this price I might pick up a couple to try anyway. You can also choose 3 or 4-pin termination, if that is something you are concerned with.
Frank, I look forward to your testing results on the D12SM fans. I'll probably throw a couple of those of those in my order also.

3 pin
UV,
Yes I was hoping that that the 120s would have speed sensors, but I will have to calibrate a fanmate and estimate the speed from voltage. I did call the guy at pctek and asked him if he could get them with rpm sensing like the 80mm version and he said he would call the warehouse. I would really like to know what else is in the warehouse.
You could do a quick review of the 80mm version and include it in the thread, or maybe just send a picture showing the connector and the yate loon label. - FG

That's the plan. I won't be getting them until at least next week though - going to be out of town until Sunday. I will keep you posted on the 80s and send pics as soon as I get them. You could do a quick review of the 80mm version and include it in the thread, or maybe just send a picture showing the connector and the yate loon label.
RPM monitoring never really was an attraction for me, though I can understand why you might need it if you really are fine-tunig. I just want the fans to move the air and do it quietly. I hook up all of my fans using 4-pin molex connectors rewired to get 5V or 7V. Up to this point I've just been too cheap to buy a fan controller, but I'll probably get a fanmate or 2 if only to test these new yate loons.Yes I was hoping that that the 120s would have speed sensors, but I will have to calibrate a fanmate and estimate the speed from voltage.

yate loon 80mm - first impressions
It's a medium speed yate loon. I received my order of them today (along with a couple 120s - great recommendation Frank). I did some A/B testing with a panaflo L1A (Japan) at different voltages, and In a couple days I will post pics and more details after they have had a chance to break in. For now:I am thinking about ordering some, anyone know anything about the 80mm fan he has for $2.75 It's listed as a CF0808
The model number listed on the bearing label is "8025M 12". There is no model number that matches this on the YL website, but it is very close to this:
http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewto ... 297#144297
As far as sound goes, read Bluefront's comments at the top of that same post - I agree it is the best 80mm I have used. The YL at 7 volts seems about equal in volume to the L1A at 5V, while obviously moving more air. I couldn't get the YL to start at 5V, so my comparison is far from scientific! The YL's bearing noise also seems to be of the gentle "sssshhhh" variety that blends in with the sound of the airflow. Contrast this with my L1A, which clicks noticeably no matter what the voltage. Currently the YL has replaced an L1A cooling the CPU, and eventually the other L1A in my psu will get bumped as well.
On a side note, thanks to everyone at SPCR. Your advice and experience have been very helpful while lurking this forum for the past year or so.
