Reserator 1 Plus

Post by Slaugh » Tue Mar 15, 2005 8:25 pm

I hope this one wasn't posted yet...

Zalman presented a new revision of the Reserator called Reserator 1 Plus at CeBit 2005. Basically, the only change is a new fitting system at the base of the Reserator that let you cut the water flow when the tubes are unplugged, making the unit easier to move. The new Reserator will also be shipped with anticorrosive, a thing that should be included with the first release IMHO. Zalman also showed their new CPU, GPU and chipset waterblocks at the same time...

Maybe the same thing that happened to their Neps 400 PSU... Some snags in the development like they said... Maybe we'll see them later this year or next year. Time will tell...

The new GPU waterblock definately looks like a huge improvement over the current one :D The addition of anti-corrosive is also a very good thing, and it really simplifies things :)

is that a northbridge cooler in front there? are these available seperately? it's the only fan apart from my power supply I have running at the moment.

Cheers,

Yes, it's a northbridge waterblock... I'm sure it will be available separately like all current waterblocks from Zalman, but when? I have no clue. Maybe you can ask this at zalmanforums.com...

how about placing your rig inside a swimming pool? its completely silent afterwards! and cold! woot!

Well, pump on the psu, could be modded on a PHantom im guessing, but eh, it would add a lot of heat to the water system wouldnt it?

There are no commercially available kits for water-cooling a power supply (as far as I know). You can do it yourself, but it's going to require some skill and know-how. Here's a picture of one.

I have seen watercooled PSUs for sale on some german websites, but they mostly looked like modified standard PSUs and the power ratings were not very good. And you still need to have airflow in the PSU, there are other components than those touching the heatsinks that need cooling..

yes there are a number of commercially available water cooled power supplies.

(yes virginia there is a santa claus)

it's amazing how downbeat about a technology some people on this list can be when 4 years ago if I had of said water cooled pc's you would have laughed.

the german company I bought my silent star hd cooler box from sells a 450wt version but I was hoping for a review or some real life experience from someone on the board.

as for the person who commented it would add a lot of heat to the circuit - duh - isn't that what water cooling is all about?

Very nice, I just love the reserator (athough i have never owned one), an upgrade is always nice.

BTW: Watercooled PSUs can be bought, but they are not very modern in specs, and are from lesser know suppliers.

Does anybody have more details about this new watercooled PSU? Seems to be a 450W PSU, without fans and watercooled... :) I don't know how efficient this one is and how much it can affect the flow rate (the pump is not that strong)... But it's for sure a nice idea!

Oh, and if anyone cares, that Reserator 1 Plus was cooling a:

Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester
2x GeForce 6800 Ultra in SLI
nForce 4 SLI chipset
WC'd PSU (don't know which though)

And according to the author it ran stable and at acceptable temperatures :D

The pump isn't that strong, but how strong does it have to be? My current pump have only half the rated flow of the reserator, and it works fine.

You can pre-order it @ Quietpc UK (available 8 July) and AFAIK it will only be available in black.

One question: in that Hexus preview, the PSU in question only has 18A in the 12V rail, is it really capable of handling a 3500+ Winchester plus 2x6800Ultras in SLI at full load? :?
