Quiet V1100 Mod
Finally I've took up enough courage to mod my V1100 ....costs me lots
Rig Details
AMD2500XP @ 1.35V
Abit NF7-Sv2 w/ Zalman NB47J
1GB Kingston Hynix DT-D43
Hercules 9800Pro w/ Arctic Silencer Rev 3
1 x 160GB Seagate SATA - loud seeks!
1 x 80GB Seagate SATA - loud seeks!
So heres the victim...the V1100
First is to get rid of the restrictive grills on both the intake and outlet

Next removing both drive cages
Then removing the alu plate that separates the compartment. This is done as I've noticed the top compartment doesn't get enough airflow. After removing, the 5.25" bays and mobo tray became pretty flimsy as it depended on that alu plate to maintain its rigidity. Therefore here comes the jigsaw!

Added and changed the direction of the drive bay, surprisingly the holes line up and I was able to tighten up the drive cage
With some needle and thread, the suspended drive cage was done with the help of trousers stretch (not sure the name of it). Note the two drives there are defective drives for testing purposes only

Finally, everything set up!
Note the green tic-tac sweet container is my IR
Evaluation:
Onto noise, the whole com has been more quieter than compared to without the mods, temps have improved by a little and hdd seeks and vibration has toned down considerably
New CPU temps: 46°C New Mobo temps: 31°
Old CPU temps: 48°C Old Mobo temps: 35°
Do remember that my ambient temp is around 31°C at the time of testing
So far i guess the heatsink is the only problem as it sucks air from the psu. This is due to the nature of Skt A boards where the clips are on the other way round, the newer Skt 939 boards would place the heatsink in the right direction. I'll probably change the cpu cooling instead of the cpu-mobo
I might do smth to the HDD since they're quite close apart, temps has risen for the hdd to 40°C from 37°C
After all these, I'm pretty satisfied with this mod, but still there're room for improvement...Coming soon....watercooling on this rig

Couple of updates:
Played around as usual but this time I removed the cpu fan on my Scythe Kamakiri and replaced back the side panel and guess what,
Load temp recorded was 51°C
Case temp also shot up to 33°C
When I removed the side panel,
Load temp increased to 54°C
Case temp increased to 35°C
Pretty impressive airflow in this casing with the mods, I'm sure it must be the bottom vents that allowed such nice temps even with such high ambient temperatures. Also note that the two case fans are 120mm Globe with thermistor running at 12V, I might play with their voltages soon

Hi there! thanks for the upz lolwinguy wrote:Hi nuttybing
Not many choices for Socket A cpu passive cooling, hope your Kamakiri is still doing well.
Anyway true not many choices for Socket A and its going to EOL...the Kamakiri still serves me well...might be thinking of holding back the watercooling option since the lesser number of fans the better.
Probably the next upgrade would be an A64, motherboard and psu, that should keep things even cooler I'm still waiting for a review of Antec's TP 2.0 here before making the purchase, since there're no Seasonic here in spore and shipping it from the US going to exp.
Check out this and this. Yep waiting for SPCR reviews on TP 2.0 and SP 2.0 .nuttybing wrote: Probably the next upgrade would be an A64, motherboard and psu, that should keep things even cooler I'm still waiting for a review of Antec's TP 2.0 here before making the purchase, since there're no Seasonic here in spore and shipping it from the US going to exp.

hi yea the Globe @ 12V is . I'm running 1 using Antec TP's fan-only connector (dunno how many volts that is as i have no multimeter) and its pretty quiet, at least when compared to a panaflo 80mm L1A @ 12V.Techno Pride wrote:hi hi i bought a Globe S12025 12L-3M today
conlcusion = Fnoisy @ 12v
and I haven't tried sticking the thermistor into a hot spot yet.
way more noisy than the chamoxa yateloons
i hope you have replaced the globes already
Oh yea the chamoxa fans you mentioned, gotta take a look next time I visit SLS.
