Just got my M-Audio Revolution 5.1 souncard. Hooked it up to my stereo system, and started loading up iTunes with Apple lossless files. Now listening to TISM - www.tism.wanker.com

FWIW, I'm extremely aware of the term "sampling", but am not up on the latest legalese. It used to be that less than a 2 second sample was OK. I don't know what's currently acceptable though. That's up to the lawyers.StarfishChris wrote:No, no, it's called 'sampling'... Guess I'll have to contact the copyright lawyers in the morning.....
Just for grins, find a copy of the Kraftwerk song "Computer Love" and listen to the first 10-15 seconds of it, then listen to that Coldplay song and give me your opinion. I'd be interested to hear it. This really does seem like a blatant ripoff to me, but hey, I'm just an old fart.
Children Of Bodom, Tokyo Warhearts. A live recording from Club Citta in Tokyo, 1999. Music is studio-quality, with the added feeling of a live-recording and the audience and all.
Current song, Downfall
I have to check out that Kraftwerk/Coldplay thing if i get bored tomorrow(very likely), just out of interest.

Reference to said 'sample' (few paragraphs from bottom). I think it's more tribute than rip-off. It's just a nine-note refrain, after all, (BTW it doesn't come in until after a minute, if you're listening to it,) it's just taken out and used to develop another song. Nothing really wrong in it as far as I'm concerned...Ralf Hutter wrote:Just for grins, find a copy of the Kraftwerk song "Computer Love" and listen to the first 10-15 seconds of it, then listen to that Coldplay song and give me your opinion. Still, Speed of Sound was beaten by an irritating frog on the singles charts over here. Take that Chris Martin![/tangent]
Time to open up Winamp and see which random track it gives me:

It's still <2 seconds...but technically Coldplay didn't sample the phonograph recording, just the musical idea itself, so that'd fall under the publishing company's jurisdiction, not the record label. Stupid music industry .Ralf Hutter wrote:FWIW, I'm extremely aware of the term "sampling", but am not up on the latest legalese. It used to be that less than a 2 second sample was OK. I've just heard the single, but is it just me or does that sound like a U2 ripoff? I'll see how the rest of the album sounds.
Dave Brubeck - Blue Rondo a la Turk
oh wait, it just flipped to Unsquare Dance
Apocalyptica - Cohkka. From the Reflections album. Great music, they started out by playing Metallica on Cellos wich sounded surprisingly good, the latest albums are their own songs and they still play on three Cellos with visiting artist playing violin, trumpet and piano to name a few instruments. I would think both fans of classical and heavy music would like this, i know i do
